Beard & Niqab are Obligatory

Muhammad: Man of Faith or Doubt?

Allegations: Quran 10:94 tells Prophet Mohamed that he must check with the People of the Book (Jews & Christians) if he doubts God’s words in the Quran. This proves: (i) Prophet Mohamed doubted God’s words in the Quran and (ii) Quran instructs Prophet Mohamed to listen to the People of the Book.

Reference:

“If you are in doubt as to what we have revealed to you, ask those who read the Book before you; certainly the truth has come to you from your Lord, so never be among the doubters. And never be of those who deny the signs of God and [thus] be among the losers.” (Quran 10:94-95)

Answer to the allegation that Prophet Mohamed doubted God’s words in the Quran:

Quran 10:94 does NOT say Prophet Mohamed doubted God’s words in the Quran. It says “IF are you in doubt about what I have revealed to you, then ask the People of the Book.” The conditional particle IF indicates that Prophet Mohamed should ask the People of the Book if he is in doubt. BUT if Prophet Mohamed is not in doubt, then he does not need to ask the People of the Book.

Now the question is: Was Prophet Mohamed in doubt about what God has revealed to him in Quran? There are many Quran verses that make it clear that Prophet Mohamed was not a doubter in God’s revelation. I will just touch upon a few verses to prove the case.

Example One:

In the Battle of Badr, 313 Muslims fought against 1,000 pagans. The night before the before the Battle of Badr, Prophet Mohamed begged God for help realizing it was impossible for 313 outnumbered Muslims to defeat 1,000 pagans without the help from God. God heard the prayer of Prophet Mohamed and sent down revelation saying he would help Muslims. Prophet Mohamed believed in God’s revelation and gave glad tidings of God’s help to his companions before the Battle of Badr took place. The two verses summarize the incident:

·         “[Remember] when you asked help of your Lord, and He answered you, "Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the angels, following one another." (Quran 8:9).

·         “[Remember] when you said to the believers, ‘Is it not sufficient for you that your Lord should reinforce you with three thousand angels sent down?’ ” (Quran 3:124)

To sum up, if Prophet Mohamed was a doubter in God’s revelation, he would not believe God’s promise to send down angles to reinforce Muslims in the Battle of Badr.

Example Two:

The Quran says Prophet Mohamed used to grieve for disbelievers realizing that disbelievers would extremely suffer hereafter for doubting the Quran. If Prophet Mohamed himself was a doubter in the Quran, then Prophet Mohamed wouldn’t grieve for disbelievers for their doubts in the Quran. Prophet Mohamed’s action proves he didn’t doubt the Quran. The following verses shows Prophet Mohamed felt sorry for doubters in the Quran.

·         Perhaps you are going to grief to death if they do not believe in this narration” (18:6)

·         God does not guide the disbelieving people. Do not grieve over the disbelieving people (5:67- 68)

·         “And whenever a chapter is revealed, they turn away. God has turned away their hearts because they are a people who do not understand. A Messenger from your own people has come to you. Your destruction and suffering is extremely grievous to him. He really cares about you and is very compassionate and merciful to the believers. (9:127-128)

One may ask why God tells Prophet Mohamed “If you are in doubt...” if Prophet Mohamed was not a doubter. First, we have already seen that Quran verses prove Prophet Mohamed was a believer, NOT a doubter. Therefore, the statement “If you are in doubt...” is a rhetorical statement. We have seen that often God uses rhetorical questions and statements in the Quran. For example:

·         "Can there be doubt about God, the creator of the heavens and earth?” (Quran 14:10)

·         “So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?” (Quran 55:38)

·         Call upon your helpers beside God, if you are truthful. (2:23)

·         O Jinn and mankind, if you can penetrate the diameters of the heavens and the earth, do so, but you cannot do so without power and authority. (55:33)

A rhetorical question is asked in order to make a point rather than to elicit an answer. And a rhetorical statement is used to make an argument more meaningful or persuasive. God knows Prophet Mohamed does not doubt the revelation. The reason God uses rhetorical statement “If you are in doubt...” is to emphasize the truthfulness of his revelation.

One may further ask: Why God would tell Prophet Mohamed not to be a doubter and denier (10:95), if he wasn’t a doubter and denier? Note that we have already proven that Prophet Mohamed was not a doubter or denier. Why does God tell Prophet Mohamed not to be a doubter and denier then? God wants to give Prophet Mohamed advices. That’s all. An advice is guidance or recommendations concerning careful future action, typically given by someone regarded as knowledgeable or authoritative. Note that you do not tell an alcoholic person not to be an alcoholic. You tell him/her to quit alcohol. On the other hand, you advice a non-alcoholic person never to be an alcoholic. Prophet Mohamed was neither a doubter nor a denier.

Answer to the allegation that Quran instructs Prophet Mohamed to listen to the People of the Book:

As mentioned earlier, Prophet Mohamed was not a doubter in Quran. Therefore, asking People of the Book (Jews & Christians) to check if Quran speaks the truth is completely irrelevant. The relevancy of asking People of the Book only comes up IF Prophet Mohamed was not a doubter in Quran which he was not. Doubters in the Quran are losers will go to hell hereafter.

Why Islam?

Below are the reasons why atheists should believe in God & choose Islam over other religions:

1) Becoming a theist is the first step toward choosing a religion. The Quran says neither the universe created itself nor did it come from nothing. God says-“Were they created by nothing, or were they themselves the creators? Or did they create the Heavens and the earth? Nay, but they are not sure that their belief is true” (Quran 52:35-36). It’s really interesting that the modern theory of a self-created universe that supposedly came into existence from nothing didn’t exist when the Quran was revealed. But the author of the Quran sensed that people would come up with such an absurd theory in future. But what I find more interesting is that the part where God says “...they (atheists) are not sure that their belief is true”. Modern atheists admit that they don’t know for sure how the universe came into existence. What atheists claim is that there is no need to bring a God into the scenario to explain how the universe came into existence. The author of the Quran was right about atheists 1,400 years ago and the author of the Quran is right about atheists today. Atheists
are not sure that their belief is true. This statement made by the author of the Quran applies to both ancient and modern atheists.

2) Islam is the only monotheistic religion on earth. Polytheism doesn't make sense. God says-"Had there been within the heavens and earth gods besides God, they both would have been ruined (because they would fight each other). So exalted is God, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe" (Quran21:22). If we look into the polytheistic religions such as Hinduism & Greek Paganism, we see that their scriptures claim Gods are in constant battles with each other over the control of the universe. But we cannot see Gods fighting each other in real life. This proves there are not multiple Gods as polytheistic religions claim or we would have seen Gods fighting each other. This also proves the Quran that God must be one, NOT multiple.

3) A falsification test appears in the Quran. The author of the Quran challenges the disbelievers to prove their belief that the Quran is not from God. No other religious scripture on earth can stand the challenge of a falsification test except the Quran. God says-"Then do they not reflect upon the Quran? If it had been from [any] other than God, they would have found within it much contradiction" (Quran 4:82). God says-"And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a chapter the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than God, if you should be truthful" (Quran 2:23). Disbelievers failed to meet the challenge of the author of the Quran till today.

4) All religions say God is all-knowledgeable. If God is all-knowledgeable, then he can't give us misinformation. Modern science confirms the accurateness of many things described in the Quran. Quran is a 1400 year old book. Science was not well developed when the Quran was revealed. If the Quran was from human but not from God, then we would find countless errors in it.

Pagan Origins of Islam

Once I had a conversation with a Christian on YouTube about the Kaba and the black stone next to Kaba. Below is the transcription of our conversation:

Jerry: Muslims are pagans because they worship the black stone next to Kaba. That black stone is an idol because Muslims kiss that stone. Muslims believe that black stone takes away the sin of whoever kisses it and becomes darker as a consequence of absorbing people’s sin.

Hu: First, nowhere in the Quran or in the hadith does it say the stone absorbs/takes away the sin whoever kisses it. But for the sake of the argument, let’s say the stone absorbs/takes away sins from the people who kiss it. Does it make that stone a god? No, it doesn't. The stone absorbs/takes away sin from people like Jesus did according to Christianity. But it doesn't forgive the sin. Only god can forgive the sin. Both black stone & Jesus take away other people's sin & place other people's sin on their own shoulder. The stone is turned black by God for taking away people's sin & placing people's sin on its own shoulder. Jesus was sentenced to death by God for taking away people's sin & placing people's sin on his own shoulder.

If I ask the judge to let you go free & punish me for your crime, do I become the judge? The answer is “No”. If the judge sentences me for your crime since I volunteered to place your crime on my shoulder, do I become the judge? The answer is “No”. This is basic common sense.

Prophet's companion Umar makes it clear that neither the stone is a partner of God nor it can benefit or harm Muslims (e.g., taking away sin/giving out sins). (Sahih Bukhari 2:667)

Secondly, Muslims don’t associate that stone with God as his partner by kissing it. Kissing something is not synonymous with associating that thing with God as his partner. Muslims kiss that stone because Prophet Muhummud kissed it. Muslims love it because Prophet Muhummud loved it. Muslims love what Prophet Muhummud loves. Muslims hate what Prophet Muhummud hates. Muslims follow the footsteps of Prophet Muhummud. We kiss the things we love. For example, our holy books, parents, wives, children, wedding ring, trophy, gold medal, and I can go on and on. Do we associate these things with God as his partners by kissing them? The answer is “No”.

Thirdly, you don't understand the definition of an idol in religious terminology. An idol is an image or statue of God that represents God. For example, Christians, Greeks, Hindus, & Buddhists are idol worshipers because they draw images and make statues of their Man God Jesus, Zeus, Rama, and Buddha. Islamic God Allah is an intangible being who is unlike all things in the creation (Quran 42:11 & 112:4). Therefore, we can't point our finger at anything in the creation (e.g., trees, stones, animals, humans) and say that thing looks like Allah or represents Allah.

Jerry: Kaba was built by pagans.

Hu: Kaba was renovated/rebuilt many times after it collapsed due to wars and natural disasters. It was renovated multiple times before prophet's birth, one time at the time of prophet & one time after prophet's death. But the Kaba was first built by Abraham & Ishmael as Quran confirms it.  The Kaba that we see today is not the same Kaba that was constructed by Abraham & Ishmael. But we still have one of the stones reserved that was used by Abraham & Ishmael to build the Kaba. That stone is called "black stone" today. Muslim holy site Kaba was built about 4000 years ago by Abraham & Ishmael. Judaeo-Christian holy site temple Mount was built by Moses about 3000 years ago. Subtract 3000 from 4000. Its 1000. Islam is at least 1000 years older than Judaeo-Christian religion.

Jerry: Who placed that black stone in the east side of Kaba? Why Mohamed destroyed all other 360 idols and left the black stone? Are you aware that Kaba was an idol worshiping place in the past? Before Islam, idol worshippers used to circle 7 times around the Kaba and then they kiss the stone. Islam made Kaba a holy place when idol worshipers were there before Islam.

Hu: You asked who placed that black stone in the east side of Kaba. God ordered Prophet Abraham to build a house of God (mosque) in Mecca. Prophet Abraham asked God which location he should build it at. In response, God sent a stone down from the heaven and ordered Prophet Abraham to build the house of God where the stone landed. Prophet Abraham and his son Prophet Ishmael built a house of God (mosque) where the stone landed. The mosque is called Kaba. That stone is the “foundation stone” of Kaba. This stone helps Muslims to count the number of times they circle around the Kaba. Muslims start circumambulating Kaba from the point where the stone is located. Each time Muslims pass that stone during their circumambulation, they add one to their count on their fingers. Thus, Muslims circumambulate Kaba for seven times.

You asked why Prophet (sw) destroyed all 360 idols but left the stone. People of Mecca stored 360 statues of their pagan Gods in Kaba. Prophet (sw) destroyed all 360 statues because they were idols. Prophet (sw) didn’t destroy that stone because that stone was not an idol (neither an image nor a statue of a pagan God).

You asked if I am aware that Kaba was an idol worshiping place before Islam. Kaba was the first house of God (mosque) on earth built by Prophet Abraham and his son Prophet Ismael (The Quran 22:26, 22:26-27). Prophet Abraham was a Muslim, not a pagan (The Quran 3:67). The people of Mecca were the direct descendants of Prophet Abraham and Prophet Ismael. Prophet Abraham and Prophet Ismael taught their children the monotheistic religion Islam. But over centuries, their descendants (people of Mecca) adopted pagan beliefs and became pagans. They turned the Kaba from a mosque into a pagan temple. They built statues of Allah and pagan Gods they associated Allah with. They drew images of their forefathers Prophet Abraham and his son Prophet Ismael. They stored these statues and images in the Kaba (Sahih Bukhari, Volume 4, Book 55, Number 571). Prophet re-occupied the Kaba from pagans, emptied the Kaba by kicking out all statues and images pagans stored in it, and turned it back into a mosque again.

You asked if I am aware that Idol worshippers used to circle around the Kaba and kiss the stone before Islam. Circumambulating Kaba was introduced by Prophet Abraham because God ordered him to do so (The Quran 2:125). Pagans didn’t invent circumambulation of Kaba. Kissing the stone was introduced by Prophet Muhummud. In pre-Islamic Arabia, pagans took good care of that stone since it was the foundation stone of Kaba but they never used to kiss it. No hadiths or historians ever mentioned that pagans used to kiss it. As I mentioned before, we kiss things we love. Prophet Muhummud loved that stone because that stone was sent from heaven by God. Muslims love what Prophet Muhummud loves. Muslims follow the footsteps of Prophet Muhummud. This is why Muslims kiss that stone. As I mentioned earlier, taking good care of something or kissing something out of love is not synonymous with associating that thing with God as his partner. Instead, making statues of something or drawing something believing that thing represents God and asking those statues for help is synonymous with associating partners with God.

Jerry: You bow down to Kaba and pray. Kaba is your idol.

Hu: We bow down to Kaba and pray to God, NOT to Kaba. Kaba is a house of God (Mosque). Muslims are allowed to pray inside the Kaba too. Kaba is a small mosque with two doors – one for entrance and the other for exit. Bible allows praying to God bowing down towards God’s house (Psalm 138:2).

Jerry: I like the part that the Arabs, the descendants of Ismael became pagans over centuries. Lol.

Hu: A century is a pretty long time. They didn’t become pagans when Prophet Ismael was with them alive. After he passes away, his descendants forgot his teachings and adopted pagan beliefs. Jews, the descendants of Isaac made higher score in becoming pagans than Arabs, the descendants of Ismael. Jews became pagans even when Prophet Moses was alive among them. When Prophet Moses departed Jews and ascended Mount Sinai only for forty days, Jews became pagans. They built the statue of a golden calf and preached that golden calf was Allah (Exodus 32:7-8).
