Abortion in Islam

Question: Does Islam allow abortion?

Answer: Abortion is illegal in Islam. God says-“And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them and for you. Indeed, their killing is ever a great sin. And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way.” (The Glorious Qur’an 17:31-32)

God mentions the two things that lead towards abortion: (i) poverty (ii) unlawful sexual intercourse (such as, adultery & rape). The eastern countries are insolvent and the western countries are solvent. The main reason for abortion in eastern countries is usually poverty. Many poverty stricken parents in eastern countries go for abortion because they believe they wouldn't be able to afford the child raising cost.

On the other hand, the main reason for abortion in western countries is usually unlawful sexual intercourse. Children born out of unlawful sexual intercourse (sex outside of marriage, prostitution, etc.) are aborted in western countries.
